Dear friends,
After all of the bad decisions by the administration and Congress, I am beginning to have a little hope again. Newspapers are finally reporting that these decisions will actually cause some harm. The Springfield News-Sun is not exactly a left wing periodical, but even its recent headlines and stories are beginning to make sense.
From the July 14 edition:
“SNAP changes could impact 97,000 Ohioans, many in the area”
“Thousands of Ohio’s 1.5 million food stamp recipients could lose eligibility for food assistance, with others seeing a possible reduction in their benefits, over the next few years under the new federal budget.”
From the July 15 edition:
“U.S. Allies want to redraw trade map, minus the U.S.”
“On one side, the United States sows uncertainty as it blows up weeks of painstaking negotiations and escalates tariff threats. On the other, 27-nation European Union and other American trading partners are forging closer ties, laying the groundwork for a global trading system that revolves less and less around an increasingly fickle United States.”
“Trump’s crackdown on immigration hits nursing homes”
“Facilities for older adults and disabled people are reporting the sporadic loss of employees who have had their legal status revoked by Trump. But they fear even more dramatic impacts are ahead as pipelines of potential workers slow to a trickle with an overall downturn in legal immigration.”
From the July 16 edition:
“ICE set to vastly expand its reach with new funds”
“The annual budget of Immigration and Customs Enforcement alone will spike from about $8 billion to roughly $28 billion, making it the highest funded law enforcement agency in the federal government.”
“The legislation sets aside roughly $30 billion to bolster immigration enforcement through 2029, money that the administration says will fund the hiring of 10,000 ICE agents. That would bring the total number of deportation officers to 16,000, surpassing the roughly 13,700 special agents at the FBI.”
The News-Sun is not the only newspaper sounding alarms. The July 15 edition of The Wall Street Journal had this headline and story:
“Trump Effect Starts to Show Up in Economy”
“New data reflect that president’s tariff and immigration policies are boosting inflation and weighing on jobs”
“A chaotic rollout of tariffs is starting to filter through to price tags on store shelves. An immigration crackdown is beginning to weigh on jobs growth, measured by federal surveys. Taken together, the impact of President Trump’s whirlwind six months back in office is showing up in the economy.”
As time goes on I expect more periodicals will report on the impacts of the recent legislation and executive orders. We are witnessing the backlash among MAGA supporters to the decision to hide information about Jeffrey Epstein. We can expect more backlash as MAGA supporters begin to understand the damage caused by the Trump administration’s policies and legislation. When The Wall Street Journal is publicly worrying, perhaps our elected officials will finally listen to our concerns.
Congress is actually responsible for trade policy, but they have abdicated their responsibility for trade. You should remind them to do their jobs and stop letting the president create economic chaos and alienate our allies. You might also remind them that incarcerating tax paying immigrants at the cost of billions of taxpayer dollars makes no sense at all.
How you can help:
1. Call or write to Senator Bernie Moreno (202-224-2315) and Senator Jon Husted (202-224-3355) expressing your concerns about recent legislation and executive orders.
2. Call Representative Mike Carey (202-225-2015) or Representative Mike Turner (202-225-6465) to express your concerns.
Provide your name, address, and telephone number so they understand you are their employer. Be calm when you speak, and be clear in your concerns.
Together we can make a difference!

Thanks for the news coverage summaries. If you are able to access the Act Blue page for the Clark Dems, it needs to be updated. I just made a donation and it's still showing the $24 for '24 campaign and pics of Kamala and Tim. Just wish it were so, but not to be!!
