Friends,
After last nights incredible victories, comes some bittersweet news. Mayor Warren Copeland is retiring early and passing the torch to Mayor-Elect Rob Rue.
Warren Copeland has served on the City Commision and as Mayor for over 35 years, including as the first Mayor elected by the citizens of Springfield. Mayor Copeland has championed progressive causes such as affordable housing, safe communities and job creation. Springfield has bounced back and transformed for the better because of Warren Copeland. There are not enough words to say that can express the impact Mayor Copeland has had on this city and our gratefulness for his leadership.
I am grateful not just for Mayor Copeland’s leadership, but also for taking a chance on me as a young organizer. I am thankful for the opportunity they gave me to manage Mayor Copeland’s final campaign. I learned so much from that experince and remain in awe of the wisdom and kindness Warren and Clara Copeland embody. I am better for having known them, and I know Springfield is better because of them.
I encourage all of you to join me in sending cards to Warren as he recovers from health issue and begins his retirement.
Cards may be addressed to
